Last years combatants socialising after a hard weekend at Ocean Beach Hotel, Shellharbour

OCEAN BEACH VICTORIOUS IN PUB CHALLENGE

Last weekend the eagerly awaited clash of the fishing titans took place between the Ocean Beach Hotel and Warilla Hotel. Warilla had been the winners for the last 2 yrs and were confident of extending their dominance and retaining the trophy. All the game plans formulated in the previous weeks were put to the test.

Using the highly successful scoring system introduced last year, each club was limited to just one daily NSW bag limit for 14 species. The mobile phones worked overtime as anglers sought information on what was being caught.

At the weigh in anglers sorted out the catch to be weighed and it was obvious the boys from Ocean Beach were going to give it a shake.

As the weigh in progressed Warilla took the early lead but the failure to have any morwong allowed Ocean Beach to draw level. However Warilla could not withstand the crushing finish as Ocean Beach weighed a bag limit of big snapper, tailor, and whiting. A hush came over the Warilla fishos as Ocean Beach piled on the points.

After some serious calculations Ocean Beach Hotel Fishing Club Shellharbour had a margin of 473 points over their rivals. Their ability to get the bag limits and quality fish ensured they would take out the title for 2008.

It was congratulations all round as the members of both teams shared their experiences with a beer and a sausage from the barbie. Plenty of hard luck stories emerged as members reflected on what they did well and where they went wrong.

Warilla have vowed to be back next year and Ocean Beach reckon they can do even better. (Only 365 more sleeps!)
